Frequently Asked Questions:
We get lots of questions from customers about our services, about pricing, and about what to expect when you’re shopping for fabrics, furniture, window treatments and drapery, bedding, etc. Here’s our attempt to answer some of those questions!
- How long does it take to get fabrics when I order them? If the fabric is in-stock with the vendor, it typically takes about a week to get them in. In the case of a back order, we’ll notify you.
- Are there shipping charges when I order fabric? Yes, there is a $8.50 charge per vendor for shipping for up to 5 yards of fabric from most vendors. There is a $.50 charge for each additional yard.
- Is there a minimum order or purchase? We have a ½ yard minimum purchase on our in-stock fabrics. Most of our special order fabrics require a 1 yard minimum order. Fabrics that are featured in our Fabrics by the Bolt area generally require a minimum order of 20-25 yards.
- I found a great fabric featured in an ad or an article in a magazine – can you get it for me? Maybe. We deal with lots of vendors and showrooms and have access to many lines that are not listed on our website or whose sample books we do not carry. And, we’re always up for a challenge – so bring in your magazine and we’ll try our best to find what you’re looking for!
- How long does it take when I order custom bedding or window treatments? Our custom workrooms generally run 4-6 weeks from the time we send the fabric to the workroom to the time we receive your completed items. If the fabric has to be ordered, allow a little extra time for shipping. And, from September through December lead times can increase.
- I’d like to get an estimate on having a chair recovered. How does that work? It’s always a good idea to start with selecting a fabric. This will allow our upholsterers to give you an accurate fabric and labor estimate. The next step is to get the estimate. Our upholsterers do estimates every week on Wednesdays. If you have a smaller item like cushions or a chair, you may choose to bring it in to the store so they can look at it here. You may also bring in or e-mail a photo and measurements and they can generally do an estimate from this information (if your piece is in bad shape and needs new cushions or work on the springs, it’s a good idea for them to see it in person). If you have a larger item or one that needs an “in person” look but you can’t bring it in, let us know and we will get you on their list for a home visit.
- Do your fabrics ever go on sale? Yes. We have Semi-Annual sales in February and August each year. During these sales many of our in-stock fabrics, trims, display furniture and accessories are sale priced. We also have a Custom Bedding Event annually in March and a Custom Drapery and Window Treatment Event annually in September. During these sales savings are offered on selected fabrics and labor for bedding, drapery and window treatments. We also have a Custom Furniture Sale annually in October. During other times of the year we have sales events from time to time, and we always have special savings in our Clearance Corner. Our special order fabrics and trims are generally not included in sale events.
- I have my fabric already – can you make my draperies for me? Unfortunately, no. For liability reasons, our workrooms are only able to work with our fabrics.
- Do you install draperies? We do not employ an installer and installation is not included in our workroom pricing. However, we work with a wonderful freelance installer who we highly recommend if you require this service. We will make sure he knows exactly how your treatment has been planned to insure it is installed to perfection. And, yes, he will be happy to install in outlying areas (subject to mileage charges).
- How do I measure for draperies – or do you do that? We can come out and measure for draperies, bedding, etc., as part of an In-Home Consultation. However, if you want to do it yourself we can discuss the style you’re considering and let you know what needs to be measured. We also encourage clients to take digital photos of their windows and to print them out (plain printer paper is fine) and use them to jot down some rough measurements. If you do this and bring in the information we can assist you in selecting styles and fabrics for your space!
